The Importance of Eating Breakfast

At some point in your life you have probably heard someone say that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day." But you may not know if or why this is true. The WebMD article, "The Many Benefits of Breakfast," is an excellent and reliable source for learning about why eating a nutritious breakfast each and every day is vital to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. According to the article, "Not only does it give you energy to start a new day, but breakfast is linked to many health benefits, including weight control and improved performance."

The article also provides very helpful tips on the kinds of food you should eat for breakfast, and why it is best to stay away from things like sugary donuts and calorie packed bagels. Breakfasts that include proteins, fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, or whole grains are much better options.

For a full list of benefits and a detailed explanation of the importance of eating a nutritious breakfast, read the entire article. "The Many Benefits of Breakfast"

I personally like to start off my day with a bowl of oatmeal each morning. My recipe includes....

1/2 cup Quaker's Old Fashioned 100% Whole Grain Oatmeal
1/4 cup Blueberries
1/4 cup Pecans (unsalted)
1/2 cup Skim milk

Add 1/2 cup of water to the oatmeal and warm in microwave for about 1 minute before adding the other ingredients.

Calorie Count: 260

This recipe includes fiber, protein, whole grains, dairy, and fruit. It is a very nutritious way to begin any day! I have experienced many of the benefits of eating breakfast. It makes me happier and healthier, and I feel good knowing that I'm doing something great for my body.
